Thinking of names…

Four steps to the right name

From what you write to the decision to register, with no detours.

    • 1

      Say what you do

What you sell, for whom and where. “Bakery” says little; “sourdough bakery in New York” says it all.

    • 2

      Read it out loud

A good domain is said on the phone without spelling it. If you have to explain it, it is not the one.

    • 3

      Register while free

A name free today may be gone tomorrow: they go to whoever arrives first, and registering is instant.

    • 4

      Put it to work

The domain still needs somewhere to live: hosting, e-mail on your name and a security certificate.

A good name answers four questions

Before you pick one from the list, read each name out loud and ask it these four.

    • Can it be said on the phone?

If you have to spell it every time someone asks, it will cost you customers for years.

    • Is there only one spelling?

A name with two possible spellings sends people to the wrong site — or to someone else’s.

    • Does it still fit in five years?

“Ana’s Cakes” shuts the door on savouries and catering. A narrow name forces a change of name.

    • Is it free where it matters?

The domain is settled here, in minutes. The trademark is registered at the USPTO, and the social handle is best taken the same day.

    Six names everybody knows

And the trick behind each one — the same trick MozOut AI uses when it proposes your twelve.

    • Creative

      Netflix

“internet” + “flicks”, slang for films. Two words cut and glued that mean nothing on their own — which is exactly what makes them registrable everywhere.

    • Cultural

      Nike

The Greek goddess of victory. The word had been there for three thousand years; the brand went to fetch it where nobody was looking, and kept it.

    • Foreign

      Lego

From “leg godt” — “play well”, in Danish. Two words from another language, cut down to four letters that any child in the world says right first time.

    • Minimal

      Volvo

“I roll”, in Latin. Five letters and a single sound. It says what the product does without ever naming it: no car, no engine, no road in the name.

    • Compound

      Facebook

Two real words pushed together, “face” and “book”, each recognisable on its own. That is what the compound style does: nothing new, everything familiar.

    • Descriptive

      Booking

The name says exactly what is done inside: booking. The most direct form there is, and it reads with no explanation needed.

The nine styles, and when to use each

The same business gives very different names depending on the style. Try two or three before deciding.

    • Compound

Two real words joined. The safest, and the one that leaves most domains free.

    • Minimal

A single short, clean word. Easy to say — and hard to register.

    • Descriptive

The name says what is done inside. Good for people searching by service.

    • Creative

Invented words. They mean nothing, and that is what makes them yours.

    • Cultural

Roots, places and words from here. It says where the company is from.

    • Foreign

English, Italian, Latin. Sounds right in food, fashion and beauty.

    • Inspiring

It promises a path or a destination. For when trust is what is being bought.

    • Playful

Puns and wordplay. It wins people over quickly.

    • Rhyming

Rhyme and repeated sound. It sticks to the ear and stays there.

Do not get stuck on one extension

If the name you want is taken on one extension, it is almost always free on another — and some extensions say more about your business than the one everybody uses.

    .
    us

    Domain .us

The national extension. It tells visitors the company is from United States, and it is the first one a local customer tries.

    One year

    .
    com

    Domain .com

The most registered extension in the world. It is the one any customer tries first, wherever they come from.

    One year

    .
    net

    Domain .net

The long-standing alternative, for when the .us of your name is taken. It reads and spells just as well.

    One year

What comes with any domain of ours

No hidden costs, and nothing you have to ask anyone for.

    • DNS management

DNS zone and redirects in the Client Area, without opening a ticket and without waiting for anyone.

    • E-mail forwarding

Addresses on your own domain, forwarded to the mailbox where you already read your post every day.

    • Domain locked

The domain stays locked against transfers and changes that did not come from you.

    • Private WHOIS

WHOIS protection hides your personal details from the public database that anyone can look up.

You registered the domain. Now what?

The name is the door. The house is still missing.

    • Put the site up

The domain needs somewhere to live: hosting with the cPanel panel, backups and a certificate included.

    • E-mail on your name

name@yourcompany.us is worth more than a free address, and the first impression is made right there.

    • SSL certificate

The padlock in the browser. Without it, the browser warns your visitor before they read a single line.

    • No site yet?

We can build it with you, from the design to publishing, ready to receive your first customers.

    • WordPress site

Hosting tuned for WordPress, with the panel set up on arrival and the updates taken care of by us.

    • When it grows

A server of your own, with guaranteed resources, for when shared hosting is no longer enough for you.

    The other domain tools

What you need before and after registering the name.

    • Name generator

Do not know what it will be called yet? That one suggests the company name; come back here for the domain.

    • Domain search

Already know the name you want? See if it is free and register it on the spot, without waiting.

    • Transfer

Is the domain somewhere else? Bring it here and keep the years you have already paid for, in full.

    Frequently asked questions

The questions that come up most often about the name generator.

It is, with no account and no card. Generate as often as you like, compare extensions and leave without leaving anything behind. Money only comes in if you decide to register one of the names, and then you pay the price of that extension — the same price as on our registration page, with no fee for having come through here.

A name is only yours once it is registered — by you or by someone else. While it is free it is free for everyone, and we do not hold it for you while you look. That is why it pays to register the moment you decide: between thinking about it and coming back tomorrow, someone may go ahead of you.

Yes: each name is asked of the extension’s registry the moment you see it, not of a list made yesterday. Minutes can pass between seeing and registering, and the name may be taken by someone else — but what we show is what the registry answered in that second. When the registry does not answer, we say “not confirmed” instead of making it up.

It uses it to suggest names. We keep your description and the names it produced — to improve the generator and to give you different names if you repeat the same idea. We never ask for your name or e-mail, we do not link this to any account, and we do not share or sell what you write.

You have three ways out, all of them on this page: try another extension — the same name is usually free on several —, press “Generate more” for MozOut AI to suggest variations from the same description, or open “Similar”, which shows the same name slightly changed. If that exact name is the one you want, the WHOIS lookup tells you who has it.

No. You can register the domain on its own and point it later wherever you like — even at a site you already have somewhere else. If you want a website or e-mail on that name, then you do need hosting, and it is worth looking at the plans that already include the domain.

Registration is immediate once the payment goes through. The name starts answering on the internet somewhere between a few minutes and a few hours, depending on the extension and how long the name servers take to spread the information — national extensions are usually quicker than international ones.

You can, and they can register yours: a suggestion is not a reservation. The names shown here are proposals, and they stay free for whoever reaches the registry first. If a name really interests you, add it to the list and deal with it the same day.

If you sell mostly here, start with the national one: it is what a local customer tries first and it says at once where the company is. If you work abroad, .com is still what people type out of habit. When the budget allows, many people register both and point one at the other.

The domain itself cannot be changed: if you want another name, you register another one. What you can do is point both at the same site and slowly change what you advertise — that is the normal path for anyone changing brand without losing the people who already knew them.
